AI makes the first working draft easy. Security, clarity and reliable operation determine whether it becomes a product.
Vibe coding is not an insult. It helps people start building who may previously have had only an idea. With AI, a thought can quickly become something people can click, try and show to others. That is real progress.
A prototype proves the idea
A fast prototype answers the first important question: is this worth pursuing? The code is allowed to be unfinished. What matters is that real people can respond early, not that everything behind the screen is already perfect.
The ease of getting started can be misleading, though. A working screen is not yet a working product. As soon as other people rely on it, the requirements change.
Production starts after the wow
Now secure data, traceable decisions, tests, updates, deployment and graceful failure matter. The system also has to remain understandable without a personal introduction and maintainable when it needs to change later.
This is where I see the difference between using AI and building AI-native. I use models, agents and coding tools extensively, but not to skip engineering. They give me more speed and more possibilities. Responsibility for the result still stays with me.
A prototype can live in the moment. A product also has to work on a bad day.
